Lady's Pirate Costume Finalists

Thirty four boats and 86 Pirates (SYC members and guests) invaded Roche Harbor Marina over the Memorial Day weekend this year. The weather was spectacular and Roche was as beautiful as ever. Highlights of the weekend included the creative pirate costume and judging exhibition, imaginative boat decorationing and fun breakfast and dinners. We were our own live entertainment all weekend!

Friday night appetizers and the rib and chicken dinner on Saturday were scrumptious. Bud’s Tug again contributed the beans. Pirate Porridge breakfasts were a big hit, too.

SYC in the Winner's Circle

Despite a wet and stormy St. Patrick's Day evening, an enthusiastic SYC group met for the wearing of the green and a night of harness racing at the Fraser Downs race track.

Following the buffet dinner it was time to be entertained by the racing and betting techniques. We watched from our section in the Homestretch as the drivers and horses dashed to the finish line.

Some placed bets based on a driver’s win history, some on the driver’s colors, some on the horse’s name (yours truly) and some claimed to have a “system”! A few wise ones watched and laughed....

'Under the Sea' Theme Decor

The Commodore's Ball is the social event of the year for members of the Semiahmoo Yacht Club. For this year's event, over one hundred SYC members joined Commodore Lynette at the Silver Reef Resort in Ferndale to help celebrate an outstanding year with an evening of food, fun and dancing.

Donning their finest evening attire, many members began the evening with a pre-event gathering in our hospitality suite. Then it was down to the hotel Ballroom, elegantly decorated to reflect the Commodore's 'Under the Sea' theme.

Cruise Host Laura

The cruisers to the unique seaside town of Sidney started off Friday evening with appetizers and a boat hop. The boat hop was a fun way to get better acquainted with fellow SYC members and meet guests.

On Saturday night one group visited beautiful Butchart Gardens, enjoyed great musical entertainment by the Sutcliffes Band, which was followed by an ethereal fireworks performance. The fireworks choreography and music were magnificent. To top off the evening, a pipe organ concert played in the conservatory above us as we followed the paths through the illuminated gardens for our return to the Marina. It was truly a magical evening.

Cruise Hosts Dave & Lynn Fixin' Shrimp

On the third weekend in June, twenty plus boats and over forty five hearty SYC members braved the less than stellar weather and ventured to Sucia Island. They were rewarded with a great weekend of food, fun and song at the 2016 reprisal of our Sucia 'Shrimp Boil' Weekend.

Cruise hosts Dave and Lynn, with a great number of helping hands, grilled burgers, brats and dogs for our intrepid travelers on Friday night. Following dinner, Jamey and Dave sang songs by the camp fire as the group enjoyed the music, jokes and conversation.
