The Plover Leads the Sail Past

The Semiahmoo Yacht Club (SYC) boating season for 2019 is officially underway! On Saturday morning, May 4th the SYC Opening Day ceremonies began at Semiahmoo Marina.

Marilyn Rockwell-Bengen performed the traditional Blessing of the Fleet. The American and Canadian Flags were raised while the respective anthems played. Then the Semiahmoo Marina and Semiahmoo Yacht Club burgees were raised accompanied by Dave Short on ukulele who led us in ‘What a Wonderful World’.

The MV Plover led the sail past parade of boats in Drayton Harbor to salute Commodore Laura Moore-Dempsey aboard MV At Last.

Salute to our Commodore!

Jamey Paterson said a Blessing of the Meal prior to the luncheon for SYC members and guests. The food was excellent and the facility and location were enjoyed by all. Several members commented on how happy they were to return to Semiahmoo Resort’s Pavilion Tent overlooking beautiful Boundary Bay for the event.

During lunch SYC presented a donation to Drayton Harbor Maritime toward the running and maintenance of the Plover. Captain Richard Sturgill accepted on behalf of Drayton Harbor Maritime.

The weather certainly cooperated with sunshine and fair winds to make it a perfect Opening Day!
