The SYC Memorial Weekend Roche Harbor Cruise had an amazing turnout this year, with 45 boats and over 110 members and guests joining in the festivities. Our theme was the ‘Roaring ’20s’ and with a ‘Passport to Adventure’, attendees were guided through a full weekend of activities, contests, seminars, prizes, food and fun!
The weekends activities began Friday night with a bus excursion to Friday Harbor and the hospitality of the San Juan Island Yacht Club. Our group enjoyed the wonderful views from the SJIYC dining room and a delicious seafood buffet.
On Saturday morning, following a light breakfast, members enjoyed learning about local marine and diving services as well as a our own Vic & Sandy (Child’s Play) sharing about using reciprocals and the Yacht Destinations web site.
Saturday evening’s festivities began in the world famous Afterglow Speakeasy with a sampling of ‘Island Spirit’ punch with gin graciously donated by San Juan Island Distillery. A fine pasta dinner was followed by an evening of fun and dancing at the Afterglow.
A Sunday afternoon event co-hosted by SYC and the Roche Harbor Marina featured hot dogs, local craft beer, sparkling soft drinks and the Mariners baseball game on the big screen.
The evening was topped off with popcorn and a screening of the classic movie ‘Some Like It Hot’ in the Speakeasy tent.
Many thanks to Cruise Hosts: Paul & Susan (Audacity), Bob & Pat (Phase 2), Don & Helen (Bud’s Tug) and Jeff & Lynette (Elysian) for putting together another wonderful SYC cruise event. Also thanks to the many vendors who contributed generously to the event.
