2017 Commodore’s Ball

by | Nov 12, 2017

The 2017 SYC Commodore’s Ball took place on November 11 in the main ballroom at the Silver Reef Hotel in Ferndale. The evening was flawless thanks to the organizational skills of Rear Commodore Laura, ably assisted by the decorating committee consisting of Olivier B, Leslie C, Lynette M-R, with help also from Michelle F and Steve M. The committee made the most of the theme “A Rainbow of Possibilities” that was appreciated by the more than 90 members and guests in attendance. Dinner was served in a timely manner thanks to the Silver Reef staff, and was accompanied by the music of the Atlantics.

After dinner current board members were thanked for their contribution and presented with gifts by the Commodore, who also thanked Chris B, Randy P and Jean M for their partial year contribution the board and presented awards to members who made extra contributions during the year:

  • Stan B – Special Recognition (for crabbing efforts)
  • Jeff and Lynette M-R – Top Recruiters.
  • Martin L and Katherine C – Outstanding Service
  • Dick and Colleen H – Outstanding Service
  • Tim And Carmen M – Commodore’s Award.

Derby host Al reviewed the 2017 SYC / BBVYC Fishing Derby results and presented the trophy to the two winners. He also announced that in future the event would be named the Bob Webber Memorial Derby.

Other major contributors to our year’s events were also thanked by Rear Commodore Laura. All cruise hosts present were asked to stand and were presented with a lapel pin in recognition of their contributions. Heartfelt thanks was given to all of them by Commodore Brian, who also received thanks for his contribution from Vice Commodore Steve M, who presented him with a gift as a Club token of thanks.

The customary Silent Auction was another success with Ed S scooping up most of the items and making a generous contribution to the Club. One of the highlights of the evening was the live auction with none other than Dick H acting as auctioneer and doing an outstanding job. The major winner was David M, who was high bid on the tool set generously donated by Patterson Tools (Jamey & Sharon). Jamey also did well himself by bidding high on the haul out package again generously donated by Sundancer Yachts.

The evening continued with dancing to the superb music of the Atlantics and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks go out to all who helped make the evening a roaring success.
