The 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Semiahmoo YC was held on April 4, 2026 (a few weeks later than usual) to accommodate a special 45th Club Anniversary luncheon for Members. The promise of good food (and important agenda items?) attracted a large turnout and Proxy Vote participation.

Commodore Jason Sloan called the AGM to order at 11:26 AM, welcoming everyone, and recognizing Past Commodores and current Officers. The Budget and other items requiring Membership approval, were presented, discussed, and voted upon (including Proxy Votes) with the following results:

  • 2026 Budget - Approved (38 Approved, 0 Rejected)
  • Annual Membership Dues Increase to US$175 - Approved (35 Approved, 4 Rejected)
  • Waiver of Initiation Fee (US$340) - Approved (36 Approved, 4 Rejected)
  • Clarification/Definition of Membership in By-Laws - Approved (38 Approved, 0 Rejected; By-Law language to accommodate Member discussion and input)

New Business:

1. Nauti-Fridays - The SYC used to hold potluck Nauti-Friday events at the Semiahmoo Marina. It was recommended that the SYC might reinstate them as a means of "marketing" the Club to Semiahmoo Marina users. Lincoln Rutter will research the logistics of his recommendation and report his findings to the Board.

2. "Social" Memberships - It was recommended that the Club establish a specific "Social" Membership category and associated Annual fee. Subsequent discussion revealed the Club already accommodates "boatless" Members who, in effect, are "Social" members at the current Annual Membership fee. No alternative fee was proposed.

3. Reciprocals - Members asked if more information could be made available on how to find and use marina reciprocals and how to access sites that coordinate/manage reciprocals. The request was noted.

4. "Buddy" Boating - "Boatless" Members want to ride along with other "boated" Members and/or "boated" Members sometimes need "crew". Also, some Members want to go on "flotilla" cruises with other Members outside of scheduled Club cruises. It was noted that Forums for those purposes exist on the Club's website. In a Member's Profile, they can go to any of the five Forums, and opt-in to send and/or receive notifications/requests to/from other Forum participants.

5. Use of Club Savings - There was a brief discussion of using Club savings to help offset the deficit budget spending. The Board is actively looking into acceptable options to improve current rates of return on Club savings at manageable costs and convenience.

The 2026 AGM was adjourned at 12:36 PM. Attendees, then, enjoyed the Club-sponsored luncheon and one another's company.
