Seafarers Memorial Park – Anacortes

The annual Semiahmoo Yacht Club Pig Roast / Bocce Tournament event was held over the Labor Day Weekend in Anacortes, with some 28 boats, 9 cars and 88 members and guests attending.Boats began arriving at Cap Sante Marina Friday afternoon and were presented a goodie bag containing a dinner tickets, town information as well as game and contest details.

Social activities also got under way Friday evening, with members enjoying appetizers and a warm late summer evening on ‘C’ dock tents, while consorting with fellow members to assemble the winning poker hand with their assigned playing card.

Following morning coffee and donuts in the tent, attendees set out Saturday to enjoy Anacortes’ Farmers Market, dining, shopping and recreational opportunities. Many members also enjoyed completing a ‘Mural’ hunt, designed to highlight the history and culture of our host city.

Bocce Action

For our Saturday evening dinner, the venue switched to the close by Seafarers Memorial Park. Our hosts grilled up tasty burgers , salads and dessert for all. Following the awarding of Poker and Mural Contest prizes, all enjoyed several rousing games of ‘Card Bingo’.

The Bocce Tournament got under way promptly at 10am Sunday, and the day featured bright sunshine, stunning scenery and tough competition on the tricky park lawn bocce courses.

All the while, the star of the event (the pig) was roasting quietly for most of the day, and was greatly appreciated when hungry bocce ballers gathered at 5PM for the signature dinner. Our hosts and catering team provided an outstanding meal of pig, salads, beans topped off with cake and ice cream.

The Bocce Tournament finals concluded the day’s events, with consolation bracket Team Fireball (Jeff, Martin, Patti and Andy) edging out a victory over the Green Hornets (Bob, Curt, Laura and Nancy).
