On the third weekend in June, twenty plus boats and over forty five hearty SYC members braved the less than stellar weather and ventured to Sucia Island. They were rewarded with a great weekend of food, fun and song at the 2016 reprisal of our Sucia ‘Shrimp Boil’ Weekend.
Cruise hosts Dave and Lynn, with a great number of helping hands, grilled burgers, brats and dogs for our intrepid travelers on Friday night. Following dinner, Jamey and Dave sang songs by the camp fire as the group enjoyed the music, jokes and conversation.
On Saturday morning, SYC Education Committee member Joe led an interesting and informative group discussion on boating related topics, ranging from diesel troubleshooting and window cleaning to head and battery maintenance. It was a great exchange of ideas, knowledge and experiences.
For the ‘Shrimp Boil’ main event on Saturday evening, Dave, Lynn and friends created two delicious preparations of shrimp for the main dinner course – a Seasoned Boiled Shrimp and Dave’s signature Teriyaki Pan Simmered Shrimp. Member contributions complemented the main course with a wonderful array of sides and deserts.
Saturday evening’s festivities also included a ‘T’ Party Costume contest and members arrived dressed up as anything from a Taco to Tinker Bell. Prizes were awarded for best costume and best couple. After dinner, Jamey and Dave each brought out their guitars, and the group enjoyed another relaxing evening by the fireside.
A fun and hearty breakfast on Sunday morning featured make your own ‘boil-in-a-bag’ omelets with a fantastic assortment of ingredients. All fueled up, the fleet set sail for home or other ports.
Thanks to all who helped make this another great SYC cruise event!
