What an amazing weekend SYC enjoyed at Fossil Bay on Sucia Island June 9-11th! The theme was “Bootleggers in the Bay” and we had the highest turnout for this event ever… 27 boats and 64 attendees which included 4 grandkids and 6 guests.
The weekend was kicked off Friday evening with an outstanding array of appetizers complimented by “Bootlegger Bathtub Gin” punch provided by the cruise hosts… Bev & Bill, Amy & Rick and Lynette & Jeff. The evening was topped off with music by Jamey and Dave, s’mores and a toasty bon fire.
Saturday greeted us with blue skies and sunshine. After a light breakfast provided by SYC, Joe from our Education Committee led a round table discussion and Ranger Steve shared a number of interesting facts about the history and geology of Sucia. Afterward, many enjoyed a walk to the China caves (where it is rumored that Chinese laborers were hidden, and rum runners stashed their wares) led by Rear Commodore Laura while others simply enjoyed the beauty of the area, visited and kicked back.
The evening’s festivities began with a dinner of grilled Tri-tip steak and steamed shrimp, accompanied by many wonderful dishes brought by the attendees. Cruise host Bill challenged the adults with nautical crossword games with the winning team members receiving Woods Coffee cards while a treasure hunt was held for the kids, with Liam P. winning a gift card to McDonalds! Those who dared played Bootlegger Bingo with S/V Sans Souci’s Marian winning all three games! We again enjoyed music, s’mores and a bon fire.
We also gained new members Lyn and Bill (aboard S/V Commander), with another application in the works from Oliver and Brenda… a Swiss couple anchored in Fossil Bay who joined the weekend festivities as guests of Karen and Ed. The fun is contagious, welcome to SYC!
It was a fantastic weekend, with six of our eleven new 2017 members attending. We were blessed with beautiful weather, lots of laughter, wonderful friends and safe travels to and from. Thank you everyone for another successful cruise in SYC history!
